Jewellery

Owing to Health and Safety legislation and advice, the wearing of jewellery is not acceptable in school. Pupils are not permitted to wear articles of jewellery such as rings, bracelets, earrings (including studs and sleepers) because they may cause injury to themselves or others. School's prime responsibility is for the safety of our pupils and we are sure that parents will join us in co-operating with our policy on jewellery for this reason. The possible exception could be on the grounds of religious significance or when a child has just had their ears pierced in which case they will be given a period of up to 5 weeks grace before being asked to remove them. Children are permitted to wear watches provided they do not incorporate games/alarms etc.

Our policy on jewellery is now long established and is also common to other local primary schools. It is inadvisable to have your child's ears pierced as for safety reasons they will not be allowed to take part in any form of physical activity, or situation where physical contact might occur, whilst they are wearing them. This will include swimming, games, P.E. and periods of unstructured play e.g. playtimes and dinner times.
