More General Information

Coming to School

Children come into school by the designated entrance from doors opening at 8.45 a.m. Please ensure that your child is punctual. Doors are closed at 9 a.m. and late-comers must come in through the main entrance and register with the School Administrative Officer. The E.W.O. also investigates lateness regularly).

Going Home

Each teacher will see their children to the door. Please allow the children to leave without crowding the doorway. This frightens many children and the sheer volume of parents means that a child (and it might be yours) may not see their own parents and become upset. Similarly, if you cannot collect your child on time, let school know so we can make arrangements to keep him/her until they can be collected. PLEASE MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CHILD AND THE SCHOOL KNOWS ANY SPECIAL ARRANGEMENTS FOR HOME-TIMES. Children who should be collected and are not will be kept in school until parents or emergency contacts can be contacted. Please ensure that emergency contact information is always up to date.

Parents in the Playground

Parents are welcome in the playground - but dogs are not. Many children are frightened of them. There are signs displayed around the school site which clearly state that dogs are not allowed on school grounds.

Please do not drop cigarette ends in the playground as younger children may pick them

Could parents waiting with pre-school children please make sure that they are supervised at all times as our grounds are extensive and it is easy for children to wander off in a matter of moments. Please keep young children away from the pond area.

Time Out of School

If there is any time when you wish your child to be absent from school for any other reason than illness, then you must apply to the Headteacher, in writing, in advance of the absence. Any absence without prior permission will be classed as unauthorised and may be followed up by a visit the Education Welfare Officer. Unexplained absences will be followed up with a telephone call.

Please remember that ALL ABSENCES require an explanation. If your child is off sick please ring the school on the first day of absence or send a letter on the first day that your child returns to school. Failure to provide an explanation means that the absence has to be classified as unauthorised.

Current legislation states that parents can only request permission for their children to be absent from school for the purposes of a family holiday for 2 weeks in any one school year. Only the Headteacher can give permission and any absences for these purposes without permission will be classified as unauthorised absences.

Preparation

If your child is starting school for the first time there are many ways in which you can help prepare them. It would help if your child could do the following things:

Problems

If you are worried in any way please come in and see your child's teacher. Teachers are happy to talk to parents at any mutually convenient time. Parents are asked to avoid occasions which prevent teachers from beginning their teaching activities.

Learning Mentor

Additionally as a school within the Stockport Excellence Cluster we are able to offer parents and pupils access to a Learning Mentor.

Learning Mentors are an important part of the Excellence Cluster initiative. They work closely with pupils, school staff, parents and carers.

The Learning Mentor supports pupils who have been identified as having personal issues or concerns that may be preventing them getting the most out of school. Pupils meet with a Learning Mentor for a variety of reasons, personal, social and academic.

Learning Mentors have time to listen and talk to the pupils about the issues concerning them, they support the pupil and help them make changes and positive choices for themselves.

Learning Mentors work closely with families, school staff and outside agencies to ensure that pupils have the widest range of support, options and opportunities.

The Learning Mentor for Fir Tree is Mrs Carolyn Beech.
